The Tulsa Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC) is an apprenticeship program registered with the Department of Labor/ Office of Apprenticeship; jointly sponsored by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA).
The Apprenticeship Program consists of classroom training as well as on-the-job training (OJT). The Apprenticeship consists of (5) 10 month sessions with periodic advances based on the successful completion of class work and a minimum number of OJT hours. Apprentices will attend at least one night a week these classes are held either on Monday -Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday nights. Each session is (4) hours in duration from (5:00 PM – 9:00 PM.) Attendance in classroom is mandatory one hundred percent attendance is expected. The Electrical Industry is Exempt from the Medical Marijuana card, there is random drug testing within the program as well as on the job.
Except for a $15.00 application fee, and text book fees, (average cost $650.00 per year) . The JATC will pick up instructor, facility and other administrative cost. In return, the apprentice will be asked to sign a Scholarship Loan Agreement whereby he/she agrees to work for a NECA/IBEW contractor for five (5) years after completion or reimburse the JATC for the cost of classroom training.
The jurisdiction (working area) of Local Union 584 IBEW covers Eastern Oklahoma. This means if you are selected for the Apprenticeship Program, you need to make a commitment to work the assigned jobs in the jurisdiction regardless of the location. This is not only a mental commitment to be able to work any location in the jurisdiction but also a financial commitment to have dependable transportation to travel to and from a job and school.
Electrical work includes physical work at construction sites working outdoors in inclement weather and working high elevations, i.e. tall ladders scaffolds or scissor lifts.

Apprentices are paid based on a percentage of the journeyman wage which is currently $36.38.
Period advancement requires 1500 on the job training hours accrued and completion of the School year with an 80% passing grade. (Exception 1st & 2nd Period requires 2,000 of hours of OJT and successful completion of school.)
